Luka Doncic Cleared for Full Basketball Activities Following Eight-Week Hamstring Recovery
The Los Angeles Lakers received encouraging news this offseason as Luka Doncic officially returned to full basketball activities after recovering from a Grade 2 left hamstring strain. After spending eight weeks away from the court, the superstar guard is finally healthy and preparing for the next chapter of his career.
The timing could not be more important. The Lakers enter a critical offseason with plans to strengthen the roster around one of the NBA’s brightest stars. Doncic’s recovery gives the organization confidence as it looks ahead to the 2026 – 2027 season.
The injury forced the 6-time NBA All-Star to miss the entire Lakers playoff run, leaving fans wondering when they would see him back on the court. Now, those questions have finally been answered with positive news from both the player and the organization.
How Luka Doncic’s Injury Happened?

Luka / IG / Doncic suffered the injury on April 2 during a regular-season game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Medical evaluations later confirmed a Grade 2 strain in his left hamstring.
Hamstring injuries are especially difficult for basketball players because the muscles play a major role in sprinting, jumping, changing direction, and explosive movement. Returning too early increases the risk of another injury, making a complete recovery the highest priority.
The recovery process lasted exactly eight weeks. During that period, Doncic focused on treatment, rehabilitation exercises, strength training, and gradually increasing his workload under medical supervision. The Lakers remained cautious throughout every stage of the process.
Unfortunately, the injury prevented him from returning before the playoffs ended. The Lakers were eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Semifinals, ending their season without their franchise star back on the floor.
Fully Cleared and Ready to Train
On May 28, Doncic officially received medical clearance to resume full basketball activities. The announcement marked the end of a long recovery process and allowed him to begin unrestricted offseason workouts.
By the middle of June, reports confirmed that Doncic had entered what people close to him described as “full go mode.” That means he can now participate in every aspect of basketball training without restrictions.
The clearance allows him to return to shooting drills, full-speed conditioning, scrimmages, strength training, and game-style workouts. After weeks of gradual progress, he can finally prepare like every healthy NBA player during the offseason.
For the Lakers, this development removes one of the biggest questions surrounding the upcoming season. Instead of spending the summer recovering from injury, Doncic can now focus entirely on improving his game and building chemistry with teammates.
Why Doncic is Skipping International Basketball?

Luka / IG / Even though he has recovered from the injury, Doncic has reportedly decided not to play for the Slovenian national team this summer.
The decision allows him to prioritize rest after an exhausting NBA season and a lengthy rehabilitation process. Many NBA stars now carefully manage their offseason schedules to reduce the risk of future injuries. International tournaments demand high-intensity basketball, frequent travel, and limited recovery time. For Doncic, remaining healthy appears to be the clear priority.
Instead of competing internationally, he is spending time in Slovenia with his family. The quieter offseason gives him an opportunity to recharge both physically and mentally before returning to Los Angeles later this year.
However, recovery does not end the moment a player receives medical clearance. Maintaining strength, flexibility, and conditioning remains essential throughout the summer. Extra rest now could help reduce the chances of another hamstring problem during the upcoming NBA season.
